The Role of Architectural Fabric in Promoting Public Life in Communal Spaces (Case Study: Baharestan Square)

Abstract

Introduction and Objective: Human being is a social creature and needs social relationships. Communal spaces are used for the development of social communication. One of these communal spaces is square where the public life is formed, which Baharestan square has been considered in this study. The purpose of this research is to investigate the impact of physical factors on community life in Baharestan Square (as a communal space).
Method: The survey method was descriptive-analytical based on data collection, and was functional in terms of purpose. The statistical population of the study consisted of Architects (students of Architecture) of Islamic Azad University of Tehran.
Results: According to the reachable samples, the sample size was 170 people, and for choosing the samples, all were considered. Data was collected using a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire. Pearson correlation and regression tests were used to analyze the data.
Conclusion: The results showed that there is no meaningful relationship between flexibility, facilities, diversity of function and public life in Baharestan Square, but the variables of accumulation and spatial determination have a positive effect on public life variable in Baharestan square.
